INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

All fourth and fifth grade violin, viola, cello and bass students at E.M. Baker will also participate in one of the school orchestras. The Performing Orchestra is open to all students while the Advanced Orchestra is by audition only. Performing Orchestra meets every Day 1 at 12:45 (starting in mid-December/January) and Advanced Orchestra meets every Day 3 at 1:00. 

Advanced Orchestra Audition Requirements for 4th and 5th Graders include:

Ability to accurately perform:

• D Major Scale
• Entry of the Nobles pg. 22 #3.3 "Measures of Success" - Book 1
• Winter Concert Song (To be handed out in September/early October)
• Auditions for 5th Graders will be held in mid/late-October. Students that do not pass their initial audition may be moved into the Advanced Orchestra later in the year if they demonstrate sufficient musical growth as well as the technical skills necessary perform in this more advanced ensemble. 
  
  Students in younger grades are also welcome to audition for the Advanced Orchestra. These students must learn all three winter concert songs prior to joining the orchestra due to the fact that instrumental lessons in school are unable to be scheduled for students below the fourth grade. -Variations on a French Melody (with CD accompaniment) p.21 in "Measures of Success" (p.21b for percussion)
-Winter Concert Song (To be handed out in September/early October)

Each student will attend a 30 minute lesson once every six day cycle. Students will be given a short assignment at the end of each lesson to be practiced for the next lesson. All students should practice a MINIMUM of 4 days a week, 20 minutes per practice session.

All assignments are posted on Google Classroom after each lesson. If a student is absent from the lesson they should still check the assignment and complete it as best they can so they do not fall behind.
