Thank you for taking the time to visit E.M. Baker Elementary School’s website. Our nurturing K-5 school community serves the needs of over 660 beautiful children. Throughout the course of a typical school day, E.M. Baker students will be reading, writing, listening, singing, moving, questioning, engaging in discourse and debate, and collaborating with each other in a safe, supportive, caring, and fun environment that is guided by our school’s mission statement.  

We celebrate our diversity, value educational and social growth through enriching academic experiences, music, the arts, mindfulness, and physical movement. We take pride in preparing the next generation of leaders. While we understand the value of a rigorous academic program that meets the individual needs of all learners, we also recognize the significance in developing the necessary social and emotional skills required for young children to understand the importance of manners, respect, kindness, and compassion for others. These are vital skills that will help make all children successful, regardless of the path they travel down the road.

In alignment with all of Great Neck’s elementary schools, E.M. Baker’s approach to literacy instruction is grounded in decades of research from Columbia University’s Teachers College Reading and Writing Project. Our Math in Focus program is based on the renowned Singapore Mathematics Model. E.M. Baker is also fortunate to have an exemplary STEAM-M program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics, and Mindfulness). Staff members are trained in the Responsive Classroom approach, and continually engage in a plethora of professional learning experiences throughout the year. We know that all students benefit when the educators responsible for their academic and social needs continue to strengthen their own learning.

In addition to a fabulous faculty and staff, we have a dedicated and vested PTO. Collectively, we deeply value building a strong home-school connection. Please find the time to engage with our PTO, while also collaborating and communicating with the professional staff at Baker. We are certain you will see that E.M.
